What is a text case converter?

A text case converter is a free online tool that changes the capitalization of your text without retyping it. Paste a sentence, a paragraph, or a whole document into the box above, click a button, and this online text case converter rewrites it as UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, or aLtErNaTiNg case. Writers use it to fix text that arrived in the wrong case; developers use it to rename variables and files to match a project's naming convention.

Everything happens in your browser. Your text isn't uploaded to a server, there's no account to create, and there's no limit on how many times you convert. A live word and character count sits under the box so you can keep an eye on length while you work.

How to use this text case converter tool

Paste or type your text into the box at the top of the page. Click any of the nine case buttons and the text is converted in place, instantly. Click Copy text to put the result on your clipboard, or Clear to start over. Each conversion works on whatever is currently in the box, so if you want to try several styles on the same original, keep a copy of it handy — lowercase and UPPERCASE replace the original capitalization, and there is no way to get it back afterward.

The nine cases, explained

UPPERCASE turns every letter into a capital (HELLO WORLD) and is best kept for acronyms, short labels, and emphasis. lowercase does the opposite (hello world), which is also handy for cleaning up text before you apply another style. Title Case capitalizes the first letter of every word (Hello World) for headlines, titles, and names. Sentence case capitalizes only the first letter of each sentence (Hello world. How are you?), matching ordinary prose.

The remaining styles come from programming. camelCase joins words together and capitalizes every word except the first (helloWorld). PascalCase capitalizes every word, including the first (HelloWorld). snake_case lowercases everything and joins words with underscores (hello_world), and kebab-case does the same with hyphens (hello-world). Finally, aLtErNaTiNg case switches between lower and upper case letter by letter — mostly used for jokes and memes.

Why case conventions matter

Case isn't just style. In prose, consistent Title Case or Sentence case signals a polished, professional document, while text accidentally left in ALL CAPS reads as shouting. In code, case conventions carry real meaning: most style guides require variables in camelCase or snake_case and components in PascalCase, and getting it wrong can fail a linter or just make a codebase harder to read for the next person.

A note on Title Case

This converter's Title Case capitalizes every word, including short words like "a", "of", and "the". That's the simplest and most predictable rule, but formal style guides such as AP and Chicago keep some short words lowercase in the middle of a title. If you follow a specific style guide, convert to Title Case first, then lowercase the small words by hand — it's still much faster than retyping the whole headline.

Converting between programming cases

The programming cases split your text into words wherever there's a space, then join them back together in the chosen style. That means they work best on plain words separated by spaces, like "user profile image". Text that's already joined, such as "userProfileImage", counts as a single word, so converting it to snake_case gives "userprofileimage" rather than "user_profile_image". It's also why going straight from camelCase to PascalCase lowercases everything after the first letter: once the spaces are gone, the converter can no longer tell where one word ends and the next begins. For the cleanest results, start from words separated by spaces.

Choosing the right case for the job

Use Title Case or Sentence case for headlines and body copy, UPPERCASE sparingly for emphasis or acronyms, and camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, or kebab-case depending on your language or platform's naming convention — JavaScript typically favors camelCase for variables and PascalCase for components, Python favors snake_case, and URLs and file names usually favor kebab-case.

Why use an online text case converter?

You could retype text by hand or dig through a word processor's menus, but most editors only offer a handful of prose styles, and none of them handle camelCase or snake_case. A free text case converter online tool like this one covers prose and code in one place, works the same on any device with a browser, and doesn't need an install or a login. It's also private: because the conversion runs on your own device, you can safely paste in drafts, client copy, or code that shouldn't leave your computer.

Common uses for a text case converter tool

Students fix essay titles and headings pasted in ALL CAPS, and turn messy reference entries into clean Title Case. Writers and editors standardize headline styles across a whole article or newsletter in one go. Marketers convert campaign names into kebab-case for URLs and tracking links, and clean up product titles exported from a spreadsheet. Developers turn plain-English descriptions into variable, function, and file names in whichever convention their language uses. And social media managers occasionally reach for aLtErNaTiNg case for a playful post.

Whether you're cleaning up text someone sent in all caps, preparing a headline, or renaming a variable to match your team's style guide, this text case converter handles it in one click. Frequently asked questions

How do I change text to uppercase or lowercase?

Type or paste your text, then click the UPPERCASE or lowercase button — the text in the box updates instantly.

What is Title Case used for?

Title Case capitalizes the first letter of every word. It is commonly used for headlines, titles, and names.

What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (myVariableName); PascalCase capitalizes every word including the first (MyVariableName). Both are common in programming.

What is snake_case and kebab-case used for?

snake_case (words_like_this) and kebab-case (words-like-this) are common naming conventions for variables, file names, and URL slugs in programming.

Does Text Case Converter change my text permanently?

Each conversion replaces the text in the box, but nothing outside this page is touched. Your text is only kept in your browser's local storage, and you can paste in new text at any time.

Is my text stored or uploaded?

All conversions run locally in your browser using JavaScript, and your text is saved to your browser's local storage so it's still there if you refresh. Nothing you type is ever sent to a server.

Can I convert a whole paragraph or document at once?

Yes. Paste in text of any length — a sentence, a paragraph, or a full document — and the conversion applies to all of it instantly.

What is Sentence case?

Sentence case capitalizes only the first letter of each sentence and lowercases the rest, matching normal prose writing style.

Is this text case converter free?

Yes. This online text case converter is completely free, with no sign-up, no usage limits, and no premium version.

Can I get my original capitalization back after converting?

Not after converting to a style like lowercase or UPPERCASE, because the original capitalization is replaced. If you want to try several styles, keep a copy of your original text first.
